Meet the Educator Interns

Here at the Urban Ecology Center, we strive to teach children about science and the outdoors by helping them explore the nature in their own neighborhoods. During the school year our team of professional environmental educators accomplish this by leading field trips. Once the warm weather arrives children flood our Centers as part of Summer Camp and our staff need reinforcements; that’s where our summer educator interns come in!

Meet the Land Steward Interns

Part of the Urban Ecology Center’s mission is to preserve and enhance the urban natural areas in which we operate. Our small, full-time team of professional Land Stewards do a great job engaging volunteers on restoration projects, but tending to all the work needed in the summer growing season can be a challenge. Thank goodness for our Summer Land Steward Interns!

Planting Relationships

I, along with thirty-one other excited individuals, have started our summer as interns with the Urban Ecology Center. We come from diverse backgrounds with different qualifications, and, while we are all pursing different futures, for the entirety of this short summer our paths are molding together as we encourage the growth of ecological knowledge here in the Milwaukee area.

Volunteer Opportunities

Community Science Project

Participate with researchers in actual scientific field research. As an assistant in a Community Science project you are really connected to the natural world.

Click here for updates on current projects occurring at UEC.

Three ways to get involved:

Researcher

If you are a university professor, graduate/undergraduate student or an interested community member you could initiate a project within Riverside or Washington Park. The Research Coordinator assists with project selection, design and arranging of volunteer research assistants.

Research assistant

Work side-by-side with researchers collecting data.

Research observer

Watch research in action. In addition to area researchers, you could also get involved in a national research project with one of our partners. For example, you could monitor nesting birds for Cornell University Lab of Ornithology.
