Kirstin comes to the Center with a wealth of education experience. She achieved her Doctor of Leadership in the Advancement of Learning and Service at Cardinal Stritch, where her thesis focused on reflective inquiry as professional development for teachers. She also has a Master's of Science in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Education. She is certified as a Director of Instruction/Principal and is certified in Elementary Education for k-8. Anglea is also a trained facilitator with the national organization, the Center for Courage and Renewal.

Kirstin also has extensive experience in leadership roles: she was the founding principal of the Milwaukee Environmental Sciences charter school, chair of the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Cardinal Stritch, and assistant principal of a middle school. In her roles as principal, assistant principal and professor, Kirstin developed and led professional development for professional educators, pre-service teachers and elementary and middle school students. Throughout her experience, she also developed strong relationships with local school districts, including Milwaukee Public Schools.

"Kirstin's demeanor is warm and gentle, while at the same time focused and strong in conviction, which will lend well to her role as Environmental Education Manager," says Beth Heller, Senior Director of Education and Strategic Planning at the Urban Ecology Center. "We are confident that Kirstin's educational and leadership experiences, her familiarity with the Center's mission and programs, and her positive outlook and love of the outdoors provides her with a distinctive and valuable background that will serve our organization well."

In her new role at the Urban Ecology Center, Kirstin will bring her experience in education and leadership roles to manage two of the Center's core education programs: the Neighborhood Environmental Education Project (NEEP) and summer environmental education programs (summer camps). Anglea's responsibilities will include coaching the education staff, cultivating relationships with the school district, principals and teachers, and negotiating contracts to ensure a successful school partnership program. The Environmental Education Manager also will direct summer nature camps, including providing oversight and guidance to educators, developing summer programs that are responsive to customers, managing program and registration logistics, scheduling staff, interns and volunteers, and communicating with campers and parents.

"The Urban Ecology Center has always been a place I've loved to visit, both as a teacher and parent," says Kirstin. "Entering all three branches is like being transported into another world, one of fun, adventure, and warmth. As a volunteer, I have had the opportunity to work with many of the great staff and am so excited to help further the Center's mission as the Environmental Education Manager. In her free time, Kirstin loves to kayak, bike, garden, cook with her family, and hang out with her daughter.
