There is real inequity of opportunity for people in cities to engage with and learn from nature. Your year-end gift to the Urban Ecology Center can help to change this narrative.
At the heart of our organization is our pledge to provide accessible green spaces for all to enjoy. With three urban, environmental centers in one of the most segregated cities in America, we understand the important role the UEC plays in combating inequities in our community. With a mission of connecting people in cities to nature and each other, we know that this work cannot be done without acknowledging that social justice issues are environmental issues and that they cannot be seen as separate entities.
Inclusive public green spaces are a central part of healthy, resilient communities. Access to nature has been related to lower levels of illness, higher levels of outdoor physical activity, restoration from stress, a greater sense of well-being, and the overall improved social health of communities.
If we want the positive impact the natural world provides to reach more equitably across our community, we must ensure that these spaces thrive and survive. This is especially important now when people need nearby nature more than ever for the mental and physical outlet it provides. Please consider a gift to support the Urban Ecology Center’s efforts in providing environmental education programming and access to safe green spaces to everyone in our community throughout the pandemic and beyond. Let’s change the narrative together.
