#MKEEarthMonth Eco-Tips: Refuse

Earth day may be April 22nd, but we’re celebrating all month long with Milwaukee Earth Month! We have 30 days of eco-friendly living tips to help you celebrate Milwaukee Earth Month at home! Each week we will share easy tips from one of the 6 R’s: refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle. Challenge yourself to try as many as you can!

This week’s tips are simple things you can do to refuse those things that you don’t really need. Not only will you help the planet by throwing fewer things out, but you’ll also reduce unnecessary clutter in your home!

Refuse

Refusing items that are wasteful and unneccessary is the first step to making more eco-friendly decisions. Share the tips with friends and send us your ideas using #MKEEarthMonth!

  1. Bring your own reusable mug to the coffee shop or ask to use a glass mug.
  2. Keep a stash of reusable bags in your car (or better yet with your bike!) or near the door in your house so you remember to bring them to the store!
  3. Cut down on unnecessary packaging by buying items you use frequently like flour, rice and beans in bulk. This also saves money!
