Our mission is to connect people in cities to nature and each other and we acknowledge that systemic racism can keep people of color from exploring and learning from nature (as in the case of Christian Cooper who was birdwatching in Central Park), and that fear of even leaving the house is something that people of color face every day. No one should feel afraid while taking a walk in their own neighborhood.

With three urban, environmental community centers in one of the most segregated cities in America, we understand the important role we play in combating this system and will continue to work with local organizations to provide dignity and safety in our neighborhoods.

We stand in solidarity with those who mourn George Floyd's death and express our deepest sympathy to those who, time and time again, must mourn the deaths of innocent Black lives within the systemic racism found in America. This has to change.
