Urban Ecology Center

At the Urban Ecology Center, we connect people in cities to nature and each other. Read more about us here!

Every choice we make about the form and function of our buildings is made with the environment in mind. From energy sources to recycled materials, Urban Ecology Center facilities provide real life examples of green building practices and management.

Visit us and see all the smart ways you can make your home and business greener.

We are overwhelmed by your support for the Urban Ecology Center's 9th annual Summer Solstice Soirée. Our guests uncovered the hidden gem of Riverside Park as they celebrated nature in the heart of the city. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our guests, sponsors, board of directors, friends and volunteers.

It’s time to explore! Our Urban Adventures programs will have you paddling, pedaling and climbing all summer long. Get into nature, there’s so much life!
Thanks to your support, kids and adults in the city can canoe, bike or climb — often for the first time. What a great way to be introduced to nature!

#MKEEarthMonth Eco-Tips: Repurpose

Repurposing items is one of the most fun ways to be more environmentally friendly and can also cure boredom. All you need is items you no longer need or use and a little creativity. You’re only limited by how creative you can be!

Before you recycle or throw something away, see if you can think of a way it could be used for something different. You might be surprised at the ideas you come up with and you'll end up making something that is one-of-a-kind!

#MKEEarthMonth Eco-Tips: Reuse

#MKEEarthMonth Eco-Tips: Refuse

Earth day may be April 22nd, but we’re celebrating all month long with Milwaukee Earth Month! We have 30 days of eco-friendly living tips to help you celebrate Milwaukee Earth Month at home! Each week we will share easy tips from one of the 6 R’s: refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle. Challenge yourself to try as many as you can!

Our habitat restoration efforts and research projects really go hand-in-hand. As we restore the land, we discover more and more mammals, birds, insects and amphibians using our parks. Our studies also help to determine the number of native plant species we’ve added that have “taken root” and are continuing to grow. Here are just a few highlights you can find.

Thank You! You really did make the impossible POSSUMble! Your support helps youth and adults explore, learn, grow, work and play outdoors. Together we’re making a positive change, neighborhood by neighborhood. See for Yourself how you supported the Urban Ecology Center during our 2015 Fall Fund Drive.
